TMEX reports the 2nd Quarter of 2023 EWR Market statistics (01.04-30.06.2023).


2nd Quarter of 2023 highlights on the agricultural commodity trades in Electronic Warehouse Receipts (EWR) Market in Turkish Mercantile Exchange (TMEX) are as follows:

  • As of the beginning of 2023, the trading value reached to TRY 23,6 billion, with a trading volume of 4 million tons and 68.000 transactions.
  • The number of investors engaging in trading platform has reached 15,000.
  • The total number of registered investors on the trading platform has reached 174,000.
  • There are currently 170 actively licensed warehouses providing services in 238 branches, 43 cities, and 128 districts.
  • The licensed warehouse capacity has achieved a record of 9 million tons.
  • In the 2nd quarter of 2023; the trading value, trading volume, and number of transactions were recorded at TRY 11,6 billion, 2 million tons and 27,000 respectively.

In the 2nd Quarter of 2023, information regarding the leading products in terms of daily average traded volume is provided below for the main traded agricultural commodities:

  • Milling Wheat: 18,076 tons
  • Durum Wheat: 826 tons
  • Corn: 165 tons
  • Barley: 350 tons
  • Lentil: 569 tons
  • Sunflower Seed: 83 tons

The seasonal trading value and volume for the traded products are provided comparatively with the same period in 2022:

  • Milling Wheat’s trading value increased by 67% to TRY 5.5 billion; and the trading volume increased by 83% to 1,066,511 tons.
  • Durum Wheat’s trading value decreased by 20% to TRY 1.3 billion; and trading volume decreased by 30% to 166,743 tons
  • Corn’s trading value increased by 5% to TRY 4,3 billion TL; and the trading volume increased by 9% to 776,716 tons.
  • Barley’s trading value decreased by 54% to TRY 442.5 million; and trading volume decreased by 56% to 79,674 tons.
  • Sunflower Seed’s trading value decreased by 69% to TRY 27.6 billion; trading volume decreased by 61% to 2,499 tons
  • Lentil’s trading value increased by 2.32 times to TRY 31.4 million; and trading volume increased by 2.15 times to 2,276 tons.

The changes in Agricultural Commodity Indices for the 2nd Quarter of 2023, based on month-end closing values, are provided as follows:

  • Wheat Index value increased by 2.54% to 3,127.75.
  • Bread Wheat Index value increased by 6.88% to 3,118.69.
  • Durum Wheat Index value increased by 5.02% to 3,701.34.
  • Corn Index value decreased by 0.28% to 2,862.64.
  • Barley Index value decreased by 3.99% to 2,860.45.
  • Grain Index value increased by 1.95% to 3,068.40.
