Turkish Mercantile Exchange Agricultural Commodity Indices Digital Transformation Award

23.10.2021

The agricultural commodity indices launched by the Turkish Mercantile Exchange (TMEX) on July 14, 2021, were awarded first place in the “Future of Industry Ecosystems” category at a competition for digital transformation projects held as part of the IDC DX Summit 2021, in recognition of the agricultural ecosystem’s contribution to digital transformation.

Held for the second time this year, the summit will take place under the theme “The Rise of the Digital Economy and the New Agenda for Executives.” The summit is organized by International Data Corporation (IDC), a market research and consulting firm that provides insights on industry opportunities and trends in the fields of information technology, telecommunications, and consumer technology in more than 110 countries.

The indices are designed to measure the price performance of a single agricultural commodity (barley, wheat, corn) or a group of agricultural comodity (grains) based on transactions executed on the TMEX Electronic Warehouse Receipt (EWR) Market.

TMEX AGRICULTURAL COMMODITY INDICES: THE PULSE OF AGRICULTURE, THE COMPASS FOR FARMERS AND INVESTORS.

TMEX Agricultural Commodity Indices serve as a new benchmark that farmers, producers, and stakeholders in the food industry and financial sector can use to measure product performance—enabling them to gain deeper insights into price movements of agricultural commodity traded on the stock exchange, more easily forecast price changes, and conduct analyses.

COMMODITIES INCLUDED IN THE INDEX: BARLEY, BREAD WHEAT, DURUM WHEAT, CORN 1. GRADE, CORN 2. GRADE

TMEX began publishing Agricultural Commodity Indices with wheat (including sub-indices for bread and durum), corn (including sub-indices for Grade 1 and Grade 2), and barley—products of strategic importance to Türkiye and with the highest liquidity—as well as the TMEX Grain Index, which comprises these products. This enables investors to track prices using a single benchmark and to monitor the relationship between Türkiye’s and the global agricultural commodity markets.

TMEX Agricultural Commodity Indices are designed to provide a clear, transparent, and real-time snapshot of the current state of the TMEX EWR Market. The calculated TMEX Agricultural Commodity Indices are intended to be used in three different ways:

  1. Investment Instrument: To be transformed into various investment instruments, such as mutual funds and futures contracts,
  2. Benchmark: To serve as a benchmark for comparing the performance of agricultural products with other investment instruments,
  3. Indicator: To function as an indicator of agricultural economic activity.

THE FUNDAMENTAL BENEFITS OF THE TMEX AGRICULTURAL COMMODITY INDICES

  • To identify the main direction of agricultural commodity markets in Türkiye,
  • To provide the broadest and most accurate representation of opportunities arising in agricultural commodities for stakeholders engaged in agricultural activities across Türkiye,
